Around the World Theme

Spring Hill Elementary School-Within-a-School takes an integrated, thematic approach to teaching and learning.

The 1998-1999 theme, “Walk Across America,” allowed students to experience their town, state and country through all subject areas. A highlight of the year was the K-5 musical program and curriculum fair showcasing the songs and schoolwork created during the year. Students dressed as various “American Heroes” and sang songs about the United States.

The 1999-2000 theme takes us beyond the United States on a journey “Around the World”. Students will do a host of activities including: map skills, international pen pals, cultural literature, ethnic songs and dances, current events, geography and many other exciting opportunities. We hope to take fieldtrips and invite guest speakers in that will help give us a more global perspective. Each grade level has chosen a continent to study in depth.

Kindergarten and 1^st Grade- North America

2^nd Grade- Australia

3^rd Grade- Africa

4^th Grade- Europe

5^th Grade- Asia
