The School-Within-A-School Steering Committee was very productive this year.  Our first major accomplishment was to review and revise the bylaws.

The parent volunteer piece has been vital to the success of the  program.  The committee developed the questions to seek feedback at the February Town Meeting.  The purpose of the town meeting was to gather parent feedback concerning the volunteer program.

The steering committee was also instrumental in deciding the focus areas of the parent survey sent out in early spring.  After the data collection, the committee helped to identify areas of success and concern.

The year culminated with some important documents being developed and revised.  It was determined that each class needed a “Volunteer Coordinator.”  The team created a list of responsibilities for the coordinators.  The steering committee developed a purpose statement for the volunteer program that was handed out at the start of the 1999-2000 school year. Revisions were made on the Home Volunteer Log and the volunteer scheduling process.

Currently, an employee letter is being composed to send to employers of School-Within-A-School parents explaining the volunteer program and encouraging flexibility in work schedules to allow for parents to volunteer periodically at school.
